R.I. Track & Field Foundation
23 Oct. – – The Cumberland boys’ team, and the girls’ squad from South Kingstown were team champs at the Bronco Invitational, held Thursday at the Burrillville Middle School. For the girls, the Rebels’ Ellie Lawler was the easy victor, clocking 17:34. Narragansett’s Marissa Mc Phillips finished second in 18:37. Lawler and Mc Philips were coaches all-staters last year; Lawler third in the state as a freshman, Mc Phillips tenth.
Cumberland went 1-2 in the boys’ race. Ben Drezek clocked 15:49 for the win. Sean Laverty hit the tape second in 15:59. Laverty, a senior, was first-team RITCA all-state last year.
