Nov. 22, 2009 – Three former All-State harriers performed well over the weekend in their respective collegiate races. At the IC4A/ECAC Championships in Van Cortlandt Park, New York City, Boston College’s Samantha Gawrych contributed to the Eagles winning the team title (54 points). BC edged second-place William & Mary by six points.
Gawrych was her team’s seventh finisher (23rd overall) in a time of 18 minutes, 3.3 seconds over Van Cortlandt’s 5,000 meters. In the same race, former La Salle star Jeanne Mack was Harvard’s No. 3 runner. Mack finished 43rd overall in 18:21.3. The Crimson placed ninth in team scoring.
At the Division II Nationals, held in Illinois, Stonehill College’s Erin Carmone finished 23rd overall with a time of 21:33.7 for 6,000 meters. She led her team (top-ranked in Division II Northeast teams this season) to a 16th-place finish.
Carmone, the former East Providence distance All-Stater, was also named Division II Women’s Athlete of the Year by USAT&F, and Cross Country Coaches Association. She won the recent NCAA Division II Regional Championships, held in Boston, and was second at the Northeast-10 Championships in Vermont. Carmone ran the 5,000-meter course in 18:23.
