27 Nov. 2010 – Rhode Island cross country runners competed at two major meets, held in New York. At Foot Locker’s Northeast Regional race at Kings Park on Long Island, R.I. state champ Bobby Allen placed 12th in the field with a time of 15 minutes, 58 seconds. (The top 10 finishers in this event qualify for next month’s National Championship in San Diego, Calif.) Placing 34th in the Foot Locker event was North Providence’s Alex Gallo (16:33).
In the girls’ race, Cranston West sisters Michaela and Alex Hackett finished 56th and 67th respectively. Michaela was timed in 20:20, while Alex clocked a 20:50.
In Wappingers Falls, N.Y., meanwhile teams from Barrington, La Salle, Chariho and Hendricken competed in the Nike Team Championships for the Northeast. Barrington senior Molly Malinowski was the top R.I. female finisher; 29th overall with as time of 19:38. La Salle senior Zach Fraielli finished as the first local boy with a time of 16:04, good for sixth place overall.
