19 Oct. - - Once more, the teams from Hendricken and La Salle headed the R.I. Track & Field Foundation’s Coaches Poll.The Hawks gathered 157 points, receiving 13 first-place ballots. The La Salle girls collected 163 points and 11 first-place votes.
Figures collected in this second survey are further portentous of State Meet results. In girls’ voting, Barrington, South Kingstown and North Kingstown were in triple figures. The Eagles, with six first-place ballots among the voters, amassed 150 points, and moved up two positions from the Sept. 14 poll. South Kingstown (138) and the Skipers (106) followed.
The boys’ survey shows the same 1-2 finish between Hendricken and Chariho. The Hawks garnered 13 of the 16 coaches voting; the Chargers 3. But the Barrington boys spiked from No. 7 in the previous poll, to third. La Salle gained 100 points for fourth spot. The final poll of the season will be Nov. 1.
