“Around the Oval’’ LA SALLE’S DAILEY-HARRIS SETS NEW HIGH JUMP MARK

10 Feb. - - Defending state champs La Salle handily captured the Large Class team title this week. In the Medium Schools division, it was Toll Gate, and Mount St. Charles took the Small Class team trophy.
Dakota Dailey-Harris, who has been setting - and re-setting - state records in the girls’ high jump, did it again in the Large Class meet. Having cleared her SR height of 5-8 (1.73 meters), the Ram senior had the bar hiked another half-inch, and cleared that height. The new SR is 5-8.50 (1.74).
La Salle’s Molly Keating lapped the field in winning the Large Schools 3000 meters. She was timed in 10:16.6. The Large Class 1500 again pitted Classical’s Maddy Berkson against La Salle’s Madison Meehan. (The two had raced at the divisional meets last weekend). This time, Keating was also in the field. Berkson hit the tape first in 4:44.5, with Keating second (4:45.3) and Meehan third (4;45.9). Berkson also won the Large Class long jump. In the Large class 1000, it was McKenzie Meehan edging her sister, Madison, by 2/10ths of a second: 3:05.3, to 3:05.5. McKenzie Meehan clocked 1:38.0 to win the 600.
Prout junior Karly Gregory went 17-0.25 (5.18) to win the Small Schools long jump. Gregory also captured the 600 in 1:43.6. Rogers High senior Grace Janes (the top-raked Rhode Islander on the national list for the girls’ 20-pound weight throw) won the Small Schools weight event with a toss of 51-2 (15.59). Jaimee Dorsey, of East Greenwich, clocked a very respectable 41.3 to win the Small Class 300. Hope senior Royal Cheatham was her usual productive self in the Medium Division meet. Cheatham won the long jump, 55 dash and 300, and ran a leg on the Blue Wave’s winning 4x200 relay. It was Westerly sophomore Jackie Burr in the winner’s circle of the Medium 3000 (10:45.7), and the Rebels’ talented Paige Ethier taking the 1500 (4:58.5).
