“Around the Course’’ R.I. TRACK & FIELD FOUNDATION
2 Nov. - The girls’ teams of La Salle and Barrington - and the boys’ squads of Hendricken and Chariho - finished in a near dead-heat in coaches polling conducted by the R.I. Track & Field Foundation, promising to make Sunday’s State Championship an interesting day.
The survey was the last of three polls this season, done by a panel of coaches. In girls’ voting, the first four teams finished in the same order as that of a poll taken on 19 Oct. But this time, the numbers were closer, with the Rams gaining 152 points (and nine first-place ballots), to Barrington’s 151 (7). South Kingstown and North Kingstown finished 3-4, respectively.
The Hawks again topped the boys’ poll, but again Chariho was right behind. Ten points separated Hendricken from the Chargers. Barrington’s 112 points was good for No. 3 in the voting.
