RAM TRACK FORCES WIN STATES; WEIGHTMAN KELLY U.S. No 1; McINTOSH SETS 3 NEW RECORDS

The 2014-15 indoor track season produced great performances at meets in-state and outside Rhode Island borders – not to mention a total of eight state records that were broken.

The indoor record books were re-written for the following performances:

*In the course of the season, Hope High senior sensation Quashira “Q” Mc Intosh broke three of her own marks: the 55 meters (7.09); 200 (24.07), and 300 (38.89).

*La Salle’s Eliza Rego, a new SR in the 1500 meters (4:34.30).

*Ram distance runner Sheridan Wilbur, 10:40.89 for new two-mile standard.

*La Salle girls’ 4-mile relay: 20:26.13.

*New boys’ 25-pound weight throw good for R.I. and New England records (as well as leading the country in season performances). This is all the work of Barrington High senior Adam Kelly (83-3.25/25.38 meters).

*The La Salle boys’ 4-mile relay sets new R.I. and New England mark of 17:11.07.

A partial chronology:

Dec. 27 – At the annual R.I. Classic Track & Field Championships at the PCTA facility, the La Salle 4×800 relay of Sheridan Wilbur, Elise Papazian, Audrey O’Neill and Rego clock a winning 9:47.35 . . . Paulo Pereira, of East Providence wins the boys’ LJ (21-7.25/6.58) . . . Nate Narcisse, of Classical, goes 7.88 to win the 55-meter hurdles . . . The Hendricken foursome of Jared Boulanger, Pat Hagerty, Avery Ingegneri and Tom Grizzetti post a winning time of 8:22.37 in the 4×800 . . . La Salle takes the boys’ DMR in 10:31.80; Matt Bouthillette. Jim Placco, Jake Grundy and DJ Principe do the honors.

Jan. 11 – Rhode Island places many athletes on the winner’s podium at the annual “Rhody’’ Invitational, held at URI’s Mackal Track. Westerly High freshman Randi Burr is double-gold, in the 1000 and 1600 meters . . . Hope’s Mc Intosh also wins two (55 and 300 dashes) . . . Classical senior Alva Hicks wins the weight throw and shot put.

Jan. 10-11 – At the Dartmouth Relays in New Hampshire, the La Salle girlsplace second in team scoring. The boys’ squad from La Salle wins team honors . . . Hendricken’s Lee moses goes 23-0.50 (7.02) to win the long jump . . . The Rams’ Jack Salisburyclocks 4:21.32 to win the mile, as teammate Bouthillette posts a winning two-mile time of 9:27.26 . . . Ram Jim Placco’s 2:34.01 is good for gold in the 1000 meters.

Jan. 18 – Narragansett’s Carly Timpson (HJ), Cumberland’s Meaghan Scullin (LJ) and Stephanie DiTraglia, of La Salle were among the winners at the annual, multi-state East Coast Invitational at PCTA . . . In the boys’ events, it’s Barrington High’s Mars Bishop winning the 800 in 2:01.18 . . . Ram Dan Paiva clocked 4:25.44 to win the mile.

Feb. 21 – La Salle’s track teams repeated as state champs at the R.I. State Championships . . . The girls’ squad posted their ninth straight team prize . . . Double state meet girls’ winners were Classical’s Hicks (WT/SP); La Salle’s Eliza Rego (1000/1500) and Hope’s Mc Intosh (55 and 300) . . . The Eagles’ Kelly won gold in the weight and shot, while La Salle’s Salisbury captured the 1000 and 1500 meters . . . For Central, Doantien Djero was double-gold in the 55 and 300.

Feb. 27 – New England champions at the Reggie Lewis Track in Boston included Rego in the girls’ mile (4:52.83), and Bouthillette in the boys’ mile (4:17.25).

March 13-15 – The New Balance National Scholastic Track Championships in New York showcases the best prep talent in the country, and local athletes made their presence known. The La Salle 4-mile relays emerged as U.S. boy and girl champs. Also No. 1 was Barrington’s Kelly in the weight throw . . . Classical’s Hicks, and teammate Lysah Russell, were All-American in the girls’ weight. Besides Kelly, the Eagles’ Bobby Colantonio also earned All-American accolades in the weight . . . Westerly High freshman Randi Burr places third in the Freshman Mile (5:10.70).
