R.I. Track & Field Foundation
14 Feb. – – Cumberland, Pilgrim and Smithfield took team championships on Saturday at the girls’ Class meets at the PCTA track. In the Large Class scoring, the Clippers got by North Kingstown, 94-87, with Classical third (82). It was Pilgrim over Toll Gate, 98-88, in the Medium School bracket. And in the Small Schools meet, Smithfield was the easy winner, tallying 155 points.
Large Class highlights
North Kingstoiwn sophomore Tereza Bolibruch captured the dash and hurdle events, while teammate Beth Nunnery clocked 10:44.30 to win the 3000 . . .Woonsocket junior Quinn Harlan clocked 7.46 and 7.42 to win the dash and hurdles respectively . . . Classical senior May Stern continued her dominance in the 300 meters with a 41.57 time.
Medium Class highlights
The Patriots’ Danika Wayss went 3:09.67 to claim the gold in the 1000 meters . . . Teammate Kayda Phillip won the long jump with a mark of 17-3.50 (5.27) . . . In the girls’ weight throw, No. 4 U.S.-ranked Courtney Jacobsen handily won the Class B 20-pound (9-kilo) event with a throw of 54-0.50 (16.47) . . . Barrington High senior Briana Gausland won a pair of gold medals. She clocked 7.50 to win the dash, and went 42.70 in acing the 300 meters.
Small Class highlights
Avenger junior Isabella Gentil won the dash in 7.63. Gentil also ran legs on two East Greenwich relays . . . A pair of victories was posted by Smithfield High junior Sydney Bagus. She went 3:23.88 in taking the 1000 meters, and clocked 5:17.07 to win the 1500 . . . The Sentinels’ Kayla Ezeama took the high jump (4-8/1.42) and the long jump in 16-11.50 (5.16) . . . Megan Malloy, of Smithfield, unloaded the 20-pound (9-kilo) weight a gold-medal 52-5.75 (15.99), Malloy also put the shot a winning 36-7.25 (11.15).
