3 Sept. – – The state’s defending individual state cross country titlists on Saturday clocked the fastest times at the RIIL Injury Fund Relays, held on the new course at East Greenwich High. In the girls’ Hindley Division race, South Kingstown junior Ellie Lawler posted a winning time of 18 minutes, 33 seconds ahead of Westerly’s Randi Burr (18:52). La Salle senior DJ Principe turned in the best time in the boys’ events. Principe clocked 15 minutes flat to take the von Housen run.
Other champs in the girls’ 3.1-milers were: Bay View senior Claire Hanlon in the Roy Race (19:34); Elizabeth Sullivan, a sophomore from Portsmouth in the Caswell event (18:37); La Salle junior Grace Connolly (18:43) in the Sullivan Race.
North Kingstown sophomore Sam Toolin clocked 16:14 to win the boys’ Whetstine Race; in the Menna Race, it was Hendricke senior Jordan Dagrin with a winning time of 16:34.1, ahead of Chariho’s Kyle Keefe by 6/10ths of a second. Senior Mars Bishop, of Barrington, captured the (Jim) Champion Division with a time of 15:56.
