11 May – – Hendricken handily won the Central Division championship on Tuesday at Conley Stadium. Classical and Central were tied for second spot. Knight junior Donatein Djero won two individual events, and ran a leg on a pair of Knights’ winning relays; the 4×100 and 4×400. La Salle’s Jack Salisbury clocked 4:06.1 to win the 1500 meters, and teammate DJ Principe was victorious in the 800.
In the Eastern Division meet at Portsmouth High, Barrington’s 158 points were good for a team win, ahead of a stiff challenge from second-place Rogers (147.5).
Bobby Colantonio, Barrington’s hammer champ, and the No. 1 prep thrower in the United States, landed a mark of 246 feet, 4 inches (75.08), a meet record and some 30 meters (100 feet) ahead of the next finisher. Colantonio’s performance puts him in possible striking distance of Jacob Freeman’s 1999 state record of 253-3 (77.20).
