9 April – – Hendricken senior distance man Avery Ingegneri is hoping his performance on his team’s winning 4×1-mile relay team will be a springboard to a successful spring track campaign. The Hawk runner joined teammates Jeff Venter, Mike Kiernan and Tom McMahon on Saturday in posting a time of 18 minutes, 25.2 seconds in capturing the Division I race at the 48th annual Knights of Columbus Relays at City Stadium, Providence.

“I’m trying to place at the State Meet,’’ the Warwick resident said of his goal for the spring. “I’m looking to qualify in [1500 meters], and in the 4×800 at the (April 28-30) Penn Relays.’’ That quartet will likely consist of Jordan Dagrin, Nick Williams and Harry Antone, along with Ingegneri.

In the Division II relay event, Pilgrim won with a time of 20:32.8. Colin Devin, Garrison Potter, Jim Kozusko and Dick Stanley did the honors for the Patriots. IN the girls’ Division II four-mile relay, it was the Portsmouth High team of Grace Cavanagh, Haley Scardina, Maura Driscoll and Sofia White clocking a winning 24 minutes to victory.

The K. of C. hammer circle produced some impressive marks in the first event of the season. Toll Gate senior Courtney Jacobsen took the girls’ 9-pound event with a mark of 176-1 (53.67 meters). In the boys’ throw, Barrington senior Bobby Colantonio unloaled the 12-pound ball 243-6 (74.21). Colantonio’s mark was the second-best in meet history. (In 2007, Walter Henning, of St. Anthony’s in New York, threw 248 feet/75.59.)

Barrington freshman Annika Kelly was impressive in her first effort of the 2016 season. Kelly, sister of former Eagle hammer champ Adam Kelly, finished fifth with a distance of 152-5 (46.45). “I have a lot farther to go,’’ Kelly said. “I want to P-R.’’ The left-handed throwing Kelly unloaded for a 138-foot (42.06) throw at last June’s New Balance meet in North Carolina.
